2015年2月11日 上記、ドーキンスへのオマージュ本を読み始める。この本に関しては、さすがにリチャードドーキンス・アンド・ララウォードの朗読オーディオブックは出ないはず。よって紙の本で読むしかない。（ただし、他の朗読者によるオーディオブックはひょっとすると将来パブリッシュされるかもしれない。その時はそれを買ってしまうだろう。）
編者の Alan Grafen, Mark Ridley は、ともにドーキンスさんの研究室の大学院生だった二人。
We can think of no more fitting tribute to a figure so exactingly logical in science, so patiently lucid in promoting the public understanding of science, and so outspoken and clear-headed in the public sphere. (ibid., xiii) （編者の序文から引用）
The Selfish Gene 出版の1976年から30年目の記念編集という位置づけではないかと思う。

特筆すべきことに、最初の奥さんの Marian Stamp Dawkins さんも一章を寄稿している。早速読んでみるとなかなかウィットに富んだ The Selfish Gene へのオマージュとなっている。
Daniel C. Dennett は哲学者。’The Selfishi Gene as a Philosophical Essay’という一章を寄稿している。
Michael Shermer は、’The skeptic’s Chaplain: Richard Dawkins as a Fountainhead of Skepticism’という一章。 Fountainhead というのは河川の水源、源泉、根源といった意味（研究社リーダース英和辞典）。 リチャードは、stands as a beacon of scientific skepticism and a hero to skeptics around the world. Dawkins’ work has touched the skeptical movement in three areas of common concern: pseudoscience, creationism, and religion. (ibid., p230)
シャーマー氏はウィルソン山天文台の麓近くに住んでいる。同天文台の100インチ径の巨大望遠鏡を擁して、ハッブルたちが1920年代に銀河系外の銀河を見出し、さらに赤方偏位観測から宇宙の膨張すなわち宇宙の始まりビッグバンを発見したのである。このウィルソン天文台をドーキンスとともに訪れた折に、ドーキンス氏が ‘All of this makes me so proud of our species that it almost brings me to tears.’ とシャーマー氏に語ったこと。そして、シャーマー氏はドーキンス氏の仕事と言葉に対して同じような感動を覚えている： ’I would echo the same sentiment about the works and words of Richard Dawkins.’ (ibid., p234)
