補註 赤毛のアンのオーディオブック。
このところ紙の本を読み続けていたのであるが、そろそろ眼精疲労が蓄積して読めなくなってきている。そこで、オーディオブックの助けを借りて眼を休ませる。
家庭小説あるいは教養小説（Bildungsroman）の良本を探してみたいということで、今回は赤毛のアンシリーズ・一冊目のスタートである。
簡単に手に入るものだけでも10種以上はあるかというオーディオブックのリストからこの Arika Escalona さんによる朗読を選んだ。発音がとても聴き取りやすい。物語本の朗読としては最高のナレーター・・といってもよい。ただ、欲を言えば、人物それぞれの声にもう少し音色や抑揚が欲しいところ。特にマシューさんの声に深みと暖かみが欲しいところである。マシューさんの素朴さは十分である。が、抑制が効きすぎか・・低音域の声の伸びやかさがやや不十分である。しかし、これも「後宮からの逃走」でオスミンと二重唱で競う低音域の力をすべてのソプラノ女性に期待してはいけないという理由で、許容したい。つまり、まとめると、声優としてはやや物足りない Arika Escalona さんではある。
そういう観点からは以前にもこのサイト（ウルフの「燈台へ」）で紹介した Narrator: Juliet Stevenson 女史の朗読は一人数役の天才ナレーションであるが・・残念ながら「アン」の朗読は見つけられなかった。・・早くヴァージニア・ウルフが理解できるほどに文学読解の力量を磨きたいものだが・・現在、全く歯が立たない現状から帰納すると、30年後も難しいかもしれない（が、希望を捨てているわけでもない）。
・・ナレーションのパフォーマンスはさておき、アンのお話の内容は素晴らしい。アンの成長をマリラやマシュー、「ブザムフレンド」のダイアナ、そして地域の人々がそれぞれ皆で支えていく。だが、アンの成長とともに、それらの人々もアンと共に時を過ごし生きることによってより豊かに成長してゆく・・そんな姿がユーモラスに明るく、そしてしみじみと描かれている。家庭小説あるいは教養小説（Bildungsroman）の良本、私の好きな本に挙げたい一冊である。友人に話すと、彼はすでに50年前に全巻（どんな小学校の図書館にも置いてあるとのこと）読み通していて、マリラとマシューの名前もすらすら出てくるのであった。私の場合は還暦を迎える頃に読んでいるので・・まあ、相当の遅れをとっているのである。（補註の補註 ただし、彼と一緒に劇団四季のミュージカル「赤毛のアン」を観たことがある。10年以上前のことである。）
